I'm a cinephile by the way

Hey, I just realized I’m a cinephile.
Not just that though…

Up until now, I thought I had to watch 19,270,645 “classics” first haha.
Turns out, that’s not how it works.
It’s not about the number, it’s about the interest, the attention, and the passion.

I’ve noticed that whenever I watch a film, I catch details that are often incredibly subtle.
Scenes that most people would probably call “ordinary” somehow hit me the hardest…

I read a lot, but to me, film still sits one step above when it comes to expressiveness.
Lost you already? I was feeling pretty good in my philosopher arc, haha.

In books, whenever an author wants you to notice something or understand a detail, they lean into description.

Sometimes they’ll spend half a page, or even a full one, on it! Anyone who’s read Madame Bovary knows exactly what I’m talking about haha.

In novels, you’ll find endless descriptions of clothes, furniture, houses, food, decorative objects, and so much more.
They’re never there just to fill the page. More often than not, those objects reveal a character’s social class, hidden desires, or even their illusions.

I mean, someone who’s broke isn’t exactly going to have a jacuzzi in their bedroom, right? Anyway.

In film, unlike books, three seconds are enough. The visuals, the body language, the music, the editing… everything comes together to create compositions that make you feel even more.

That’s why I personally think cinema, or audiovisual storytelling in general, has the edge when it comes to expressiveness, even if books remain more detailed and precise. You get what I mean now? Took you long enough!

There’s something for everyone, depending on your interests, your goals, or simply your mood.

By the way, I do have a recommendation. Not exactly the easiest one though. Enter at your own risk…

The film is called Q.
Couldn’t be a more straightforward title. The opening scene makes that pretty clear too haha.

Beyond all the sex stuff (haha), there’s a real story underneath. It contrasts the way men and women experience sex. Finishing quickly, go hard, getting off, balls on one side. Attention, tenderness, gestures, caresses, TAKING YOUR TIME on the other. And the main character… what an actress. Flirtatious whenever it suits her, manipulative by noon, and by night, just a regular woman refusing to accept her father’s death. How do I know all that? Don’t worry about it.

Building charisma by copying actors’ gestures down to the smallest detail.
Discovering another culture, another era completely different from ours.
Seeing a different perspective on reality, the world, and yourself.
Recognizing yourself in fictional characters, and learning how to deal with life too haha.

That’s only a tiny glimpse of everything cinema has to offer, and I’m genuinely proud to be one of the people who fell in love with it.

I’ve got a pretty great watchlist too, but shhh!
